LadyLady Starlight, a performance artist, met Gaga during the time. Gaga was signed to Streamline Records by Vince Herbert in 2007 following her performance at Lollapalooza Festival 2007. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during her experience at Famous Music Publishing. This firm later was acquired and rebranded as Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Gaga was hired to compose songs for Britney, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's first album, "The Fame", was released in 2008 to a lack of media attention. Gaga went on tour in Europe as well as in the US to promote the album. It was not until Gaga made her debut with her hit song, "Just Dance", that the mainstream media began to get to the industry. Gaga was suffering with a hip injury called a labral her right hip. She was taking care of it in secret for several months with the hope of being in a position to continue her tour. After performing in Toronto Gaga, she was unable to walk and was in extreme pain. She was taken to the hospital where her tour was cancelled.
